The Flemish program SIM MaRes is about recycling of ‘Materials from solid and liquid industrial process Residues’, and aims at creating and demonstrating an operational, flexible toolbox to recover metals and valorize residual matrix into building materials.

The fundamental research project (SBO)
Get A Met is part of SIM MaRes
as it focuses on the development of groundbreaking technology for the recovery of metals and metalloids contained in liquid industrial streams.

Get A Met responds to the European critical raw material challenges and,
by developing innovative solutions for the recovery of critical metals
and metalloids from low-concentrated industrial streams,
it contributes to tackle the raw materials criticality in Flanders.

Why should we all care about critical raw materials?

  • Flanders is already one of the European top regions on closing metal cycles from recycling end-of-life consumer good; yet, this kind of recycling alone is insufficient to meet the overall demand.
  • The potential economic return and technological importance of critical raw materials,  makes the development of new processes to address their recyclability from previously neglected matrices highly attractive. In this sense, Get-A-Met is unique since today no other technological alternative can fully cope with the challenges imposed for efficient recycling of critical raw metals and metalloids in the industrial wastewater life cycle.
